Workshop On Fake News, Anti-State Propaganda

Karachi: Pakistan Information Center (PIC) organised a two-day training workshop to educate participants about news authenticity and tools to counter fake news and anti-state propaganda on May 9 and 10 at a private hotel in Karachi.
A joint project of the Press Information Department (PID), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and PIC; the participants will be taught advanced tools to identify fake news while also being trained to understand global or domestic propaganda against the state.
For the two-day training workshop, lead trainer Gibran Ashraf taught the participants advanced tools to identify fake news and anti-state propaganda,as well as journalistic values and ethics.
Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary Shoaib Ahmed and other prominent personalities as guest speakers informed the workshop participants about using multiple tools to identify misinformation and disinformation.
The training workshop was attended by members of Karachi Press Club, journalists associated with various TV channels and newspapers and media studies students, besides, journalists and students from other cities of the province also took part in the online workshop.
PIC has so far provided training to nearly 11 thousand journalists, media students, and social media influencers across the country, and this year the centre also plans to provide training to 2000 more journalists and students.
Moreover, it provides training to journalists in all four provinces: Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad.
