Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi City Traffic Police (CTP) have devised a special traffic plan to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Champions Trophy matches scheduled to take place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from February 23 to 27.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima, a total of 367 traffic personnel, including DSPs, inspectors, and wardens, will be deployed to manage traffic flow during the matches. Additional personnel will also be stationed along alternative routes during the movement of cricket teams.
The Murree Road will be completely closed from Faizabad to Double Road during the arrival and departure of teams. Traffic from Islamabad to Rawalpindi will be diverted from Faizabad to the Expressway, while vehicles traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad can use Saidpur Road via 6th Road.
Similarly, traffic from Ghousia Chowk will be rerouted to Kurry Road via Farooq Azam Road. During match hours, Stadium Road (from 9th Avenue Chowk to Double Road Turn) will remain closed.
Traffic from Islamabad via 9th Avenue will enter Rawalpindi through the Expressway via Faizabad and IJP Road, using Pindora Chungi, Katarian, Carriage Factory, and Pirwadhai Mor Chowk. Those traveling from Murree Road via Double Road to 9th Avenue can enter Islamabad from Faizabad.
Five designated parking spaces have been set up, and a shuttle service arranged by the district administration will transport spectators to the stadium.
For public awareness, CTP will display banners at key locations and provide live updates on alternate routes through its social media pages and FM radio station. Citizens are urged to cooperate with traffic police to ensure smooth traffic flow.
For real-time traffic updates, the public can follow CTP’s official social media handles (@ctprwp) or tune in to FM radio stations, Beenish Fatima added.
