Peshawar:  The centuries-old tradition of drumbeating remains alive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding vibrancy to weddings, birthday parties, and other celebrations, even in the digital age.

Despite the rise of social media, dhol players have experienced a resurgence in business, particularly during the wedding season.

Zulfiqar Khan, a seasoned dhol player, spoke about his career, which began after his father’s passing 21 years ago. He expressed hopes for increased business during the winter season as weddings and festivals pick up.

The price of dhols has also risen due to inflation, with some reaching Rs32,000, up from Rs20,000 just two years ago.

The traditional drumbeaters continue to be preferred over DJs, as their services are more cost-efficient and do not require electricity. Some dhol players earn between Rs5,000 to Rs20,000 per performance, depending on the client’s budget.

Despite the challenges posed by social media and the decline of cinemas in Peshawar, dhol players remain a cherished part of the region’s cultural fabric, with many looking forward to their business flourishing during the winter months.
