Tourist Arrivals In Maldives Top 1.3mln For 2024

Colombo: Maldives has welcomed over 1.3 million tourists so far in 2024, reflecting a 10.4 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, a total of 1,304,236 tourists had visited the Maldives till August 19. The global travel destination welcomed 121,179 tourists in August alone.
China remains the Maldives’ largest tourism market, contributing 184,000 visitors, followed by Russia with 139,000 and Britain with 112,000 tourists.
The Ministry of Tourism also reported that there are currently 1,220 tourism establishments operating across the Maldives, including 174 resorts, 879 guesthouses, 153 safari vessels, and 14 hotels.
The Maldives has consistently demonstrated resilience and appeal as a top global travel destination. In 2023, the Maldives recorded a total of 1,878,543 tourist arrivals.
Other significant markets include Italy (7.4 per cent), Germany (7.1), and India (6). Notably, Spain has recently entered the top 10 source markets, contributing 2 per cent with 25,369 arrivals, replacing Poland.
