Top-Level Talks: US, China for Stable Relations

New York: As the opposing countries had their second high-level discussions in days, America’s top diplomat and China’s vice president expressed hope for more stability in their often tense relationship.

During a meeting with Vice President Han Zheng in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that he believed in “face-to-face diplomacy” to resolve disagreements.

“I think it’s a good thing that we have this opportunity to build on the recent high-level engagements that our countries have had,” Blinken told Han as they began their discussion at China’s UN mission.

The talks aim to “ensure that we’re maintaining open communications and demonstrate that we are responsibly managing our two countries relationship.”

The world’s two greatest economies, according to Han, face “a lot of difficulties and challenges.” The world requires healthy and stable US-China relations that benefit not only China and the United States, but the entire world,” he said. Agencies/APP
