Tiger Woods’ Genesis Struggle Ends Abruptly

Islamabad: Struggling with back spasms, golf icon Tiger Woods faced a challenging start in the opening six holes of The Genesis Invitational at Riviera, managing to stay just one over par.
Unfortunately, his physical issues persisted, leading to his withdrawal from the second round on Friday, citing illness.
This marks the end of Woods’ first PGA Tour appearance since the April 2023 Masters, introducing uncertainty to his competitive golf comeback.
As the host of the tournament, the 15-times major champion visibly struggled during the initial holes, ultimately deciding to withdraw at the par-four seventh hole. An official escorted Woods away from the course, highlighting the severity of his condition.
In Thursday’s first round, Woods faced difficulties, finishing eight shots behind the leader and securing the 49th spot with a one-over-par 72. Back spasms, attributed to a rare shank on his approach shot at the final hole, contributed to his challenges.
Woods’ ongoing battle with recurring back issues has been a concern, affecting his recent performances. This abrupt exit follows his cut at the 2023 Masters, where he withdrew before completing the third round due to plantar fasciitis. Subsequently, he underwent ankle surgery, underscoring the persistent toll of injuries on his career.
Having made a return to professional golf in November, participating in the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship, Woods faced another setback at The Genesis Invitational, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of his journey back to competitive play.
