Rawalpindi: A local court in Rawalpindi on Saturday granted police remand of three suspects in connection with the alleged honour killing of a newlywed woman in the Pirwadhai area.
According to police sources, a total of eight individuals have been arrested so far, including the victim’s husband, her brother, other family members, a gravedigger, a graveyard management official, and a rickshaw driver who allegedly transported the woman’s body.
The investigation was launched discreetly by law enforcement officials after reports emerged of a jirga (tribal court) held between members of both families.
The woman was allegedly suffocated with a pillow, while her husband had simultaneously filed a complaint under Section 496A, accusing others of kidnapping his wife on the same day.
Police revealed that they had secretly traced the location of the woman’s grave, which was hastily erased following the burial. Investigators have since identified the key suspects believed to be directly involved in the crime.
City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani stated that the police have gathered a complete account of the incident, and all those involved have been identified.
“Once all legal formalities are fulfilled, comprehensive details of the case will be shared with the public through the media,” he said in an official statement.
Meanwhile, the court of Judge Qamar Abbas has ordered the exhumation and post-mortem examination of the woman’s body, scheduled to take place on July 28.
