Islamabad: As 2026 gets underway, fresh data on global web traffic highlights the continued dominance of tech giants, while also underscoring the rapid rise of artificial intelligence platforms in everyday digital life.

According to January 2026 figures released by analytics firm Semrush, ChatGPT has emerged as the fifth most visited website globally, reflecting the growing reliance on AI tools for information, productivity, and daily tasks.

Search and Video Giants Lead

Unsurprisingly, Google retained the top position with 94.8 billion visits in January, followed by YouTube with 49.7 billion visits. Social media platforms also maintained a strong presence, with Facebook recording 9.5 billion visits and Instagram attracting 6.1 billion visits.

AI Platform Surges Ahead

ChatGPT recorded 5.5 billion visits in January, ranking fifth worldwide and surpassing several long-established platforms. It outperformed Reddit (5.1 billion visits), Wikipedia (4.3 billion visits), and X (3.8 billion visits).

The figures signal a major shift in online behavior, with AI-driven tools becoming central to how users search for information, solve problems, and create content.

Other Major Platforms in Top 20

The Semrush data also listed several other high-traffic platforms in the global top 20, including WhatsApp, Amazon, TikTok, Bing, Netflix, and Weather.com.

The rankings reaffirm the enduring strength of search engines, social media networks, and video platforms, while also highlighting the remarkable ascent of AI technology as a mainstream digital destination in 2026.
