Ten Years On: HRCP Remembers Rashid Rehman’s Sacrifice for HRs

Islamabad: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) marked the solemn ten-year anniversary since the tragic murder of lawyer Rashid Rehman, who served as our coordinator in Multan.

Rehman was brutally gunned down due to his courageous defense of a victim of the misuse of blasphemy laws, highlighting the alarming erosion of the right to freedom of conscience, thought, and belief in Pakistan.

Even in the face of increasing challenges, Rashid Rehman’s unwavering courage and dedication continue to inspire.

HRCP underscores that no rights defender should ever have to sacrifice their life for the noble cause they pursue.

As the custodian of human rights commitments, the state is reminded of its obligation to identify and bring Rehman’s killers to justice.

Furthermore, concerted efforts must be made to ensure that blasphemy laws are not exploited as tools of oppression any longer.
