Islamabad: The Teleschool App initiative of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has received a robust response, with over 10,000 downloads in 310 cities and around 5,500 enrollment numbers recorded on the App across the country since its launch during the last week.

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) sources informed that around 17,000 videos of various class lessons have also been viewed in just a week which is a clear indication of its success among the underprivileged population, especially in far-flung areas of the country.

The latest technology like Teleschool would be utilised to further augment the quality of education, sources added.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had launched the Teleschool Pakistan App, Google for Education and Digital Continuous Professional Development initiative last week to provide online education to students from grades 1 to 12. The initiative will further revolutionise the formal education system in the country.

In the meantime, the plan to start the first-ever TeleSchool programme had taken concrete form in 2020 in response to the coronavirus pandemic with the aim to provide education to children via telecast at their doorsteps.

According to the sources, “Tele-education is the future; therefore, we can now reach those remote areas where we have not yet built infrastructure.”

Even though the education sector faces significant obstacles, including the more than 20 million children who are not in school and the low 60 percent literacy rate, the education ministry has been implementing programmes like tele-education.

Access to education has also been greatly aided by mobile phones. The school day lasts ten hours, from eight in the morning to six in the evening, and it caters to children in grades one through twelve. The content has been matched with students’ learning objectives for the key areas of the national curriculum, stated the Ministry of Education. According to the ministry, PTV was chosen as the broadcast medium since 95 per cent of people could access its services.

The content has been sequenced by officials from the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE). Some digital educational content development platforms provided support on a pro bono basis. The channel is also extensively benefiting children living in far-flung areas. The programme has received positive feedback from the populace, especially in rural areas of the country where there was no infrastructure for primary education.
