Teachers Call Off Strike After Successful Negotiations

Peshawar: Primary school teachers in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa ended their five-day strike on Saturday following successful negotiations with the provincial government.
Aziz Ullah Khan, President of the All Primary Teachers Association (APTA), announced that schools across the province would reopen on Monday, November 11.
The government agreed to all the teachers’ demands, including the formation of a committee to address the issues of teacher upgradation and other concerns within a month.
The induction pay scale for primary teachers will be upgraded from scale 12 to 14, while primary head teachers’ scale will rise from 15 to 16.
It was also agreed that candidates for scale 14 induction will need to hold at least a BA or BSc degree.
The upgradation will cost the provincial government an estimated Rs 11 billion.
Additionally, 13,000 teachers will be regularized, and 3,000 teachers from seven districts will be promoted. The KP government also committed to reversing forced retirement decisions and securing approval for the CP Fund from the provincial cabinet.
MNA Arbab Sher Ali assured that the provincial government would ensure the implementation of the agreements made with the teachers.
