Rawalpindi: Discussions are underway between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regarding collaboration on key constitutional positions.

As per political circles, there is speculation that the PPP is eyeing the coveted position of Speaker of the National Assembly.

Former Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani is emerging as a strong contender for the Speaker’s post within the PPP. However, the current Speaker, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, is also expressing interest in securing the Speakership for the second time, given his close ties with Asif Ali Zardari.

Party insiders suggest that PPP Gilani is the frontrunner for the position. Traditionally, if the Speaker hails from Punjab, the Deputy Speaker is chosen from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Sardar Muhammad Yusuf, a successful PML-N candidate from Hazara Division, is likely to be appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

Murtaza Javed Abbasi from PML-N has become a strong candidate for Deputy Speaker after losing his seat.

In the event of not being appointed Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar is considered a potential candidate for Chairman Senate. Alternatively, Azam Nazir Tarar may be the candidate.

The post of Deputy Chairman Senate is usually reserved for Balochistan, and this time, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari, Jan Jamali, Sabir Baloch, and Noor Jahan Panizai are speculated contenders for the position.
