Sydney Sweeney Opens Up About Struggle Asking For Help
News Desk
Los Angeles:US actress Sydney Sweeney has revealed that she finds it “hard” to ask for help, a challenge she says mirrors the experiences of the character she portrays in her new film Christy.
Speaking to Sky News, Sweeney, known for her role in Euphoria, said, “I have a really hard time with asking for help, and my friends recently have really pointed that out to me… There’s nothing wrong with it, but I have really a hard time with it.”
She added that societal expectations on women make it even more difficult. “As a woman, there’s so many expectations on us to have it all together. If we do ask for help, then it’s seen as a weakness. A man can ask for help, and no one thinks he’s weak, but for a woman, it can be interpreted as not being prepared,” she explained.

The film’s director, David Michod, echoed Sweeney’s observations, noting that his wife and co-writer, Mirrah Foulkes, had faced similar pressures in the industry. “Women have to, as soon as they reveal that they don’t know something, it becomes like, ‘oh, she’s unprepared, she doesn’t know what she’s doing,’” Michod said.
Christy is a biopic based on the life of boxer Christy Martin, highlighting her groundbreaking career as well as her personal struggles, including domestic abuse and coercive control by her husband and coach, James ‘Jim’ Martin, and her experience as a closeted gay woman.
