Swat: In a major development for tourism and wildlife conservation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department has established the region’s first mini zoo in the Kanju area of Swat, set to open its doors to the public on February 15, 2025.
Latif ur Rehman, spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Climate Change, Forests, Environment, and Wildlife, stated that the initiative is not just a recreational facility but a step toward wildlife awareness and education.
The zoo will house a variety of animals and birds, offering an immersive experience for families, students, and wildlife enthusiasts.
For years, Swat—renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage—lacked a dedicated space where locals and tourists could observe wildlife up close. With the provincial government’s special interest and support, this long-standing demand has now been met.
The facility will feature a structured entry fee system for different visitor categories, ensuring accessibility while maintaining high-quality care for the animals. Beyond being a tourist attraction, the zoo aims to educate visitors about the importance of wildlife conservation and habitat protection.
This addition is expected to further boost Swat’s tourism industry, attracting more visitors eager to explore not only the valley’s scenic beauty but also its diverse fauna.
