Islamabad: Assistant Commissioner Rural visited various areas of the Rural Sub-Division on Thursday in an effort to combat the spread of dengue fever in rural Islamabad.

On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, Assistant Commissioner Rural (ACR) conducted inspections of garbage bins, tyre shops, service stations and construction sites, according to an ICT spokesman.

Accompanied by dengue monitoring teams, ACR identified and issued warnings to several violators of dengue prevention guidelines. In two cases, the violations were so egregious that AC ordered the arrest of the perpetrators, who were subsequently transferred to the police station.

The heightened surveillance and enforcement measures in rural Islamabad reflect the growing concern among health officials about the potential of a dengue outbreak in this region.

Although dengue is most frequently associated with urban areas, there is mounting evidence that it also exists in rural settings. This is due in part to factors such as climate change, which is expanding the range of mosquitoes capable of transmitting dengue.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection that can cause a range of symptoms, including fever, headache, muscle aches, and rash, and can lead to hospitalisation and even death in severe cases.

The general public is advised to assist in preventing dengue by taking actions, including removing standing water from the area around their residences and businesses, using insect repellent, and donning protective clothing.
