Karachi: Sudhal Faqir Laghari, a celebrated Sufi singer from Sindh, has passed away at the age of 65.
The esteemed artist, known for his deep-rooted Sufi traditions, succumbed to illness on July 18 at the Nawabshah Government Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for some time.
He was laid to rest in the local graveyard of Abai Goth.
Born in 1959 in Laghari Bajarani, Takula Moro, Sudhal Faqir was the son of the renowned Sufi singer Ali Bakhsh Laghari and part of a distinguished lineage of Sufi musicians.
His grandfather was also a prominent Sufi singer, marking the third generation of Sufi vocalists in his family.
Over the decades, Sudhal Faqir has carried on the family tradition, performing the poetry of legendary Sufi poets such as Shah Abdul Latif Bhatai, Sachal Sarmast, Sami, and Janan Faqir.
Throughout his career, Faqir captivated audiences with his pure Sufi style, often incorporating modern poets like Sheikh Ayaz and Rashid Morai into his repertoire.
His contributions extended across various Sindhi language TV channels, radio stations, and numerous concerts and ceremonies throughout Sindh.
Despite his significant impact on Sindhi culture and Sufi music, Faqir did not seek financial aid from the Sindh government, nor did the government extend support for his medical treatment during his final days.
Sudhal Faqir Laghari’s passing marks the end of an era for Sufi music in Sindh, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual and cultural enrichment.
