Wiregrass: After a round of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday, forecasters are warning that Saturday’s storms could pack a stronger punch across the region.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Wiregrass under a Level 1 “Marginal Risk” for severe weather. While widespread severe storms are not expected, isolated strong storms may develop. The primary concern is damaging straight-line winds, though forecasters say hail and even a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.

Overnight, conditions will remain unusually warm and unsettled. Low temperatures are expected to stay in the upper 60s to lower 70s, with rain chances holding near 60 percent through the early morning hours.

Storm activity is forecast to ramp up Saturday afternoon as a cold front pushes into the area. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop and intensify, with the greatest risk for severe weather likely between 3 pm and 8 pm.

Behind the front, a noticeable cooldown is on the way. By Sunday, high temperatures will drop into the 50s and 60s, while overnight lows are projected to fall into the 30s.

Residents are urged to remain weather-aware, monitor forecasts, and have multiple ways to receive warnings as conditions evolve.
