Strong Winds, Rain Forecast for Karachi Today
News Desk
Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted the possibility of strong winds and thunderstorm-induced rainfall in parts of Karachi on Monday evening, potentially offering temporary relief from the city’s ongoing hot and humid conditions.
Despite this brief respite, weather is expected to stay warm and humid over the next 24 hours, with daytime temperatures ranging between 35°C and 37°C. The minimum temperature recorded in the last 24 hours was 28°C. Currently, humidity stands at 43%, with dry northwesterly winds blowing at a speed of 8 km/h.
The Met Office had previously warned of persistently high temperatures across Karachi and other parts of Sindh, with the most intense heat occurring between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Citizens have been urged to limit outdoor activities during these peak hours to avoid heat-related health risks.
This forecast follows a month marked by extreme weather. April 2025 was the seventh driest and the second hottest April in Pakistan in 65 years. The national average temperature during the month reached 27.91°C—3.37°C above the long-term average of 24.54°C. Even more concerning, the average daytime high soared to 36.40°C, exceeding the norm of 31.74°C by 4.66°C.
Rainfall during April was also significantly below average—down 59%—placing it among the driest Aprils since 1960. These weather extremes underscore the mounting influence of climate change on Pakistan’s climate, with potentially serious consequences for agriculture, water supply, and public health as summer conditions intensify.
