Streets Turn to Sewage in Karachi
News Desk
Karachi: The aftermath of recent rainfall in Karachi has left large parts of the city waterlogged, with damaged roads and paralyzed civic life. Poor drainage and administrative inaction have worsened the situation, drawing criticism from frustrated residents.
In several neighborhoods, including Model Colony, Korangi 2½, Industrial Area, Bagh Korangi, Qayyumabad, Orangi Town, Baldia, and the KPT Bridge vicinity, stagnant rainwater mixed with sewage has accumulated on streets, disrupting traffic and daily routines.
Model Colony has been among the worst-hit areas, where large potholes formed by standing water have trapped vehicles. A police mobile was reportedly stuck in a water-filled crater on Friday, with videos of the incident circulating widely on social media, highlighting the extent of the chaos.
Residents voiced anger over the authorities’ absence and called on the city administration to act swiftly. “Mayor Sahib, please have mercy on us. The situation here in Model Colony is unbearable,” pleaded a local resident.
What started as a brief relief from the summer heat quickly turned into an urban disaster, with no significant response yet from the relevant departments. Citizens are demanding immediate drainage and road repair operations to restore mobility and prevent further damage.
