Rawalpindi: A local court on Monday granted police remand for six more suspects, including the deceased Sidra’s husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle, and the head of an illegal jirga, in the ongoing investigation into a suspected honour killing case in Pirwadhai.
The suspects — identified as Zia-ur-Rehman (husband), Muhammad Saleh alias Saleem Khan (father-in-law), Arab Gul (father), Zafarullah Arab (brother), Ismatullah (jirga head), and Mani Gul (uncle) — were presented before Civil Judge Qamar Abbas Tarar under tight security.
Police requested a 10-day physical remand; however, the court approved a four-day remand and handed the suspects over to the investigating officers for further interrogation.
With these recent arrests, the total number of detainees in the case has reached nine. Earlier, police had apprehended a gravedigger, the secretary of the graveyard committee, and a rickshaw driver in connection with the case, which revolves around the alleged murder of a young woman following a verdict issued by an unlawful jirga.
Following court directives, the exhumation of the victim’s body was carried out on Monday to determine the actual cause of death. A medical team, including Lady Dr. Misbah ur Rahman from Holy Family Hospital, conducted the post-mortem examination.
Dr. Ejaz Butt, Medical Superintendent of Holy Family Hospital, confirmed that samples were collected and sent to a forensic laboratory in Lahore for analysis. “The forensic findings will be submitted to the court once received,” he added.
Rawalpindi City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani is personally monitoring the high-profile case. A special investigation team has been constituted to conduct raids and arrest remaining suspects, ensuring a thorough and transparent probe.
