Mithi: Six more children have died at Mithi Civil Hospital over the past five days due to malnutrition and various illnesses, hospital sources reported on Saturday.
According to officials, the children were undergoing treatment for different ailments and weakened immune systems. With these deaths, the total number of child fatalities at Mithi Hospital in the past month has reached 50.
Medical Superintendent of Mithi Civil Hospital said the primary reasons behind the high mortality include home deliveries, low birth weight, and severe malnutrition. Three of the children who died in the last 24 hours were under one year of age, he added.

Hospital authorities noted that the children’s ward, with a capacity of 70 beds, currently houses 76 patients suffering from cold, malnutrition, and other illnesses. “Due to low weight, cold, and other diseases, these children are extremely vulnerable,” the MS said.
Parents of the sick children have raised concerns over the lack of adequate medical facilities, particularly in the pediatric intensive care ward, and urged Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to ensure better health and medical support in the district.
Over the last three weeks alone, 46 infants have died due to malnutrition and related complications, highlighting a growing health crisis in Tharparkar. Input from Dunya News website.
