D I Khan: Six terrorists were killed, three policemen embraced martyrdom, and six others were injured when terrorists launched a major assault on the Police Training School (PTS) in Dera Ismail Khan on Friday night.

The attack, which began with an explosive-laden truck ramming into the facility’s main gate, sparked a fierce five-hour-long operation by police and security forces.

According to police sources, the attackers — identified as members of the banned outfit Fitnatul Khawarij — detonated explosives at the entrance of the training school, causing a section of the boundary wall to collapse. Two policemen stationed at the gate were martyred in the initial blast.

The heavily armed assailants, dressed in different uniforms, stormed the premises and opened indiscriminate fire. Another policeman engaged the terrorists and was martyred after being targeted with hand grenades.

Upon receiving the alert, District Police Officer (DPO) Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed arrived at the scene with reinforcements and took command of the operation. Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Ashfaq Anwar also reached the site and personally oversaw the counter-assault alongside frontline personnel.

A joint team of police and security forces launched a coordinated counter-terrorism operation that lasted over five hours. By the end of the engagement, six militants were killed and the area was secured. Security forces recovered suicide vests, explosives, weapons, and ammunition from the attackers.

The injured policemen were shifted to nearby hospitals, where several were reported to be in critical condition.

DPO Sajjad Ahmed said that nearly 200 trainees, instructors, and staff members were present inside the training school at the time of the assault. All were safely evacuated, preventing what could have been a large-scale tragedy.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed praised the swift and courageous response of the DI Khan Police under the leadership of RPO Ashfaq Anwar and DPO Sajjad Ahmed. He lauded their bravery and reaffirmed the force’s resolve to root out terrorism from the province.

The IGP also offered prayers for the martyred officers and announced commendations and rewards for all personnel who took part in the successful operation.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the area has been declared clear, though search and clearance operations are continuing to track down any remaining militants or facilitators involved in the attack.
