Six Killed in Gun Attack on Passenger Vehicle in Kurram
News Desk
Lower Kurram: At least six people were killed on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a passenger vehicle in the Lower Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed.
Police said the vehicle was targeted while travelling through the area. The victims’ bodies were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.
The attackers managed to flee after the assault. Law enforcement agencies have launched a search operation, while investigations are under way to trace those behind the incident.
Fragile Peace Under Strain
The attack comes only weeks after tribal elders in Lower Kurram and Sadda signed a one-year peace agreement in July, aimed at ending years of recurring clashes in the region.
The truce, concluded during a jirga at the Frontier Corps Fort in Sadda, was signed by elders from the Sunni and Tori Bangash tribes alongside district authorities and security officials, in accordance with the Kohat Agreement.
At the time, Deputy Commissioner Ashfaq Khan had hailed the accord as a “milestone for regional stability,” crediting both tribal leaders’ cooperation and security forces’ sacrifices for the progress towards peace.
