Sidra Punished Despite Landmark Innings for Pakistan
News Desk
Colombo: Pakistan opener Sidra Amin made history during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 clash against India by becoming the first Pakistani woman to hit a six against India in an ODI, but her record-breaking innings ended in controversy after she was reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct.
Despite her fighting 81-run performance in Pakistan’s 88-run defeat to India on Sunday, the top-order batter was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which pertains to the “abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures” during an international match.
The incident took place in the 40th over of Pakistan’s innings when Sidra, frustrated after her dismissal, struck her bat forcefully onto the pitch while walking back to the pavilion.

According to an ICC statement, Sidra accepted the sanction proposed by Match Referee Shandré Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel, avoiding the need for a formal hearing. She also received one demerit point, her first offence within a 24-month period.
“Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points,” the ICC confirmed.
The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, third umpire Kerrin Klaaste, and fourth umpire Kim Cotton.
While the reprimand overshadowed her landmark performance, Sidra’s innings stood out as a rare highlight in Pakistan’s batting display — not only for her fluent stroke play but also for breaking a long-standing barrier in Pakistan–India women’s cricket.
Pakistan will next face Australia on Wednesday, October 8, where Sidra will aim to continue her strong form under renewed scrutiny.
