Islamabad: In a major shake-up ahead of the new Pakistan Super League season, the franchise previously known as Sialkot Stallions has been reintroduced as Multan Sultans, marking a renewed focus on Southern Punjab’s representation in the tournament.

The rebranding was formally unveiled at a press conference attended by Pakistan Super League CEO Salman Naseer, the franchise’s new owner Gohar Shah, and business partner Hamza Majid.

Naseer said the name change followed a formal request by Shah after he acquired ownership of the team. He explained that the league had shortlisted six potential names, with Multan Sultans ultimately selected as the franchise’s new identity.

The PSL chief also confirmed that the season opener and the league’s opening ceremony will be held in Lahore, with preparations already underway to deliver a high-profile launch event.

For Gohar Shah, the shift is about more than branding. Speaking at the ceremony, he described the move as an effort to restore Southern Punjab’s presence in the country’s premier T20 competition.

He said his decision to purchase the franchise was driven by a desire to give the region stronger visibility on the national stage.

Shah expressed confidence that a competitive and professionally managed team could contribute not only to franchise success but also to the broader development of Pakistan cricket.

Hamza Majid, the franchise’s new partner, underscored the importance of strategic collaboration, saying sustained partnerships would be key to building a competitive and enduring squad.

With fresh ownership and a revived regional identity, the newly branded Multan Sultans aim to usher in a new chapter as anticipation builds for the upcoming PSL season.
