Shenzhen Welcomes PM Shehbaz as Pak-China Relations Take Center Stage

Shenzhen: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commenced his five-day official visit to China on Tuesday, arriving in Shenzhen for the first leg of the trip from June 4 to 8. 

Upon landing at Shenzhen Airport, he received a warm welcome from Luo Huanghao, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, along with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, Pakistan’s Ambassador in Beijing Khalil Hashmi, and other senior diplomatic officials.

Shenzhen is the initial stop of the prime minister’s visit to China, where he will engage in discussions with Meng Fanli, Secretary of the Communist Party of China in Shenzhen, to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.

During his two-day stay, Prime Minister Shehbaz and his delegation will also meet with the leadership of Guangdong province and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, as well as prominent Chinese companies in the innovation and high-tech sectors.

Additionally, he will inaugurate the Pakistan-China Business Conference, aligning with his vision to foster collaboration between the business communities of both nations. A delegation of leading Pakistani business figures will participate in the conference to collaborate with their influential Chinese counterparts.

Shenzhen, known as the hub of China’s innovation, technology, and research-driven companies, is a key focus of the visit. The aim is to strengthen economic cooperation in export-oriented innovation, advanced technologies, high-tech development, and ICT sectors.

Pakistan’s delegation includes prominent business figures along with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Petroleum Minister Dr Musaddik Malik, Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Privatisation Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, and Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja.

Upon arrival, the prime minister expressed admiration for the city’s skyline and development, emblematic of modern-day China.

He anticipates fruitful engagements with provincial authorities, the business community, and industry leaders before heading to Beijing for official discussions with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and other esteemed Chinese leaders and officials.
