Shed Collapse Kills Student, Govt Takes Action Against Officials

Sialkot: Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat took immediate notice of the tragic death of a female student after the collapse of an under-construction classroom shed at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Badiana in Pasrur.

Acting on the special instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the minister visited the school to review the situation and oversee preliminary investigations.

Speaking to the media, Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that officials of the Education Department, including the CEO Education and the school principal, had been taken into custody. He further directed that the contractor and engineer responsible for the construction be arrested by the following day. A case has also been registered based on a complaint from the school administration.

The minister revealed that the CEO Education had visited the school two days prior to the incident but failed to ensure essential safety measures. He also noted that the injured student was shifted to the hospital with a delay of nearly one hour.

Expressing deep sorrow, Rana Sikandar Hayat said, “The eighth-grade student was like my own daughter. Those responsible will be brought to justice and held accountable.” He added that the family of the deceased has refused a post-mortem examination.

During his visit, the minister was briefed in detail about the circumstances of the accident. Mudassar Hayat Malik, Secretary School Education, Saba Asghar Ali, Deputy Commissioner, and Sidra Sattar, Assistant Commissioner Pasrur, accompanied the minister and provided a comprehensive briefing at the accident site.
