Shanghai: Tesla Inc. has been granted a construction permit for a new mega factory project, as confirmed by the management committee of Lingang new area within the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

This marks Tesla’s inaugural energy storage mega factory outside the U.S., situated in the Lingang new area and slated to commence mass production in the first quarter of 2025.

Initially, the factory will manufacture 10,000 Megapack units annually, translating to approximately 40 GWh of energy storage capacity.

The Megapack serves as a robust battery solution, providing energy storage and grid support to aid in stabilizing the grid and averting outages, as per Tesla’s description.

In January 2019, Tesla initiated the construction of its Shanghai Gigafactory.
