Shan wants ruthless cricket Against South Africa

Cape Town: Pakistan’s red-ball captain Shan Masood has called on his team to realize their potential and play ruthlessly to level the series against South Africa in the second Test starting Friday at Newlands, Cape Town.
Addressing a pre-match press conference, Shan expressed confidence in his team’s talent and potential, emphasizing the need to defeat top-ranked sides to prove their worth.
“We have loads of potential in this squad. To do justice to it, we must aim to win against the best teams in the world,” Shan remarked.
Pakistan narrowly lost the first Test in Johannesburg, falling short by just two wickets in a closely fought game. Shan noted the team’s determination to bounce back after the narrow defeat.
“It was heartening to see some strong performances in the first Test. I’ve encouraged the team to enjoy these moments and build on them. We played good cricket over four days, but great teams make winning a habit,” he added.
Shan acknowledged South Africa’s formidable status as the No. 1 Test side, citing their six-match winning streak. He emphasized the importance of crossing the finish line against strong opponents rather than merely competing.
Pitch Conditions
While refraining from naming the playing XI, Shan noted that the pitch at Newlands appeared different from Johannesburg’s, with comparatively less grass.
He hinted at a likely focus on pace bowlers but stopped short of committing to a specialist spinner, expressing confidence in Salman Ali Agha’s ability to contribute as a part-time spinner, as seen in Australia.
South Africa, meanwhile, announced Keshav Maharaj in their squad, complementing their pace-heavy lineup featuring fast-bowling all-rounders Bosch, Jansen, and Mulder.
Aamer Jamal’s Role
Shan highlighted the importance of Aamer Jamal to the team, describing him as a key player who adds depth to both batting and bowling.
Justifying Jamal’s lighter workload in the first Test, Shan explained that Muhammad Abbas had shouldered significant bowling duties in Johannesburg, leaving fewer opportunities for Jamal.
“He’s a proper fast bowler and a decent batsman at No. 8, providing crucial balance to the team. Aamer will have a bigger role to play on the Newlands surface,” Shan concluded.
With a focus on strategic adjustments and renewed determination, Pakistan will look to level the series against a dominant South African side.
