Islamabad: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday upgraded Shan Masood’s central contract from Category D to B upon test captaincy appointment.

In accordance with the PCB’s policy, Shan Masood, Pakistan’s newly appointed Test captain, has seen his central contract category upgraded from D to B. This decision aligns with the board’s practice to elevate the contract of a centrally contracted player below the A or B categories when appointed as captain.

Shan Masood, 34, assumed the Test captaincy on November 15, slated to lead the team until the conclusion of the ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 cycle. The left-handed batter boasts a record of 1,597 runs from 30 Tests and is set to spearhead Pakistan in his maiden captaincy role during the imminent three-match series against Australia.

The series schedule is as follows:

  • 1st Test: Perth, December 14–18
  • 2nd Test: Melbourne, December 26–30
  • 3rd Test: Sydney, January 3–7, 2024

Here is a breakdown of the PCB’s contract categories:

  • Category A:The highest category of contract. Players in this category are considered to be the most important players in the team.
  • Category B:The second-highest category of contract. Players in this category are considered to be important players in the team.
  • Category C:The third-highest category of contract. Players in this category are considered to be developing players.
  • Category D:The lowest category of contract. Players in this category are considered to be fringe players.
