Islamabad: A severe heatwave continues to tighten its grip across Pakistan, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting persistently hot and dry weather for the coming days. The sweltering conditions are expected to intensify, with temperatures across many regions soaring 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal.

According to the PMD, southern parts of the country—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—are likely to experience temperatures 4 to 6°C higher than average. Meanwhile, central and northern regions, including Islamabad, central and upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, may face even more intense heat, with mercury levels projected to rise 5 to 7°C above seasonal norms.

In the federal capital, Islamabad, very hot and dry weather will prevail, with little respite expected during the day or night.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts are bracing for hot and dry weather, with southern and central areas facing particularly harsh conditions during daytime hours.

Punjab is forecasted to remain under severe heat, accompanied by dust-raising and gusty winds, especially in central and southern districts.

Sindh continues to bear the brunt of the heatwave, with scorching temperatures and strong gusty winds expected to sweep through coastal areas during the afternoon.

In Balochistan, the southern districts are set to face extreme heat and dry conditions, with gusty winds further aggravating the situation.

In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, hot and dry weather is anticipated, with some areas experiencing partly cloudy skies during the afternoon.

Over the past 24 hours, the country has witnessed intense heat, particularly across the plains. The highest recorded temperature was 48°C in Sibbi, followed by 47°C in Rahim Yar Khan, Dadu, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Jacobabad. Other cities such as Rohri, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Larkana reported 46°C.

The PMD has issued an advisory urging citizens, especially those in vulnerable communities, to take all necessary precautions. These include avoiding direct sunlight during peak heat hours, staying well hydrated, and limiting outdoor activities to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Authorities have been asked to stay alert and ensure the availability of emergency services to deal with any health complications arising from the ongoing heatwave.
