Kohat: At least seven people lost their lives and one person was injured after a landslide struck the mountainous village of Qamar in Tehsil Gumbat, Kohat district, Rescue 1122 officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The incident occurred earlier this week when a section of a hillside suddenly collapsed, burying eight individuals under heavy debris. Rescue teams launched an intensive search-and-rescue operation, which concluded after several days of continuous efforts.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said seven bodies were recovered from the rubble, while one injured survivor was rescued and shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Following the tragedy, the affected area was cordoned off as authorities began assessing geological risks to prevent further incidents. The district administration has also initiated an inquiry into the causes of the landslide, renewing concerns about safety measures and early warning systems in landslide-prone mountainous areas.
