Islamabad: The Senate on Monday unanimously passed a resolution expressing grave concern over the alarming rise in drug use among students and urged the federal government to take immediate and concrete measures to eliminate the menace from schools, colleges, and universities across the country.
The resolution was jointly tabled by Leader of the Opposition Syed Shibli Faraz along with Senators Mohsin Aziz, Aon Abbas, Dost Muhammad Khan, and Falak Naz.
Highlighting the severe threat posed by drug abuse to students’ physical and mental health, the resolution warned of its long-term consequences on the moral and social fabric of the country’s youth.
“The alarming increase in the use of drugs among students in schools and colleges poses a serious threat to the physical and mental well-being of our youth,” the resolution stated, adding that the trend was driving the younger generation towards moral and social decline.
The upper house urged the government to launch decisive measures to curb drug proliferation in academic institutions and called for close coordination with provincial governments to formulate a comprehensive national strategy to tackle the issue effectively.
