Second Spell of Rain, Snow Brings Relief to AJK
News Desk
Mirpur: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is witnessing its much-anticipated second spell of rain and snowfall, marking the end of a prolonged dry period that lasted several months.
Since late Thursday, significant snowfall has blanketed the picturesque Neelam and Leepa valleys, while rain has drenched the plains, causing a sharp drop in daytime temperatures. Nighttime temperatures in the upper regions remain extremely low, but the wet weather has been welcomed as a much-needed reprieve after months of dryness.
The prolonged dry spell had led to seasonal ailments, such as allergies and flu, and raised concerns about low water levels in rivers and dams across the region. Last night, the first heavy rainfall of the winter, accompanied by mild thunderstorms, further chilled the atmosphere.
The recent weather change has provided relief to residents, though they have been advised to stay indoors and wear warmer clothing to protect themselves from the harsh conditions.
The meteorological department predicts continued rainfall in the plains and snowfall in the higher altitudes over the next 24 hours. This wet spell is expected to replenish the parched landscape, alleviating concerns over water scarcity and improving overall conditions in AJK.
