Islamabad: As winter envelops the country, health experts have warned of an increase in flu, cough, and chest infections due to weakened immune systems, particularly affecting children and the elderly. They have urged citizens to include seasonal fruits and vegetables in their diets to strengthen immunity.
Speaking to a private news channel, medical professionals highlighted the critical role of a nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle in combating winter illnesses. Herbalist Dr Ghalib Agha stressed the importance of consuming seasonal fruits and vegetables, rich in essential nutrients and antioxidants, to bolster the immune system.
“Seasonal produce like citrus fruits, sweet potatoes, carrots, and dark leafy greens are loaded with vitamins and minerals that can help reduce the risk of illness,” he explained. Dr. Agha also advised citizens to adopt natural remedies to address common winter health concerns.
He recommended drinking kehwa, a traditional Pakistani herbal tea, to alleviate symptoms of flu, cough, and chest infections. “Kehwa, prepared with a mix of herbs and spices, has natural anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe the throat and chest, providing relief from congestion and cough,” he noted.
Dr. Agha further emphasized using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients for making ‘kehwa’, as these enhance its effectiveness in boosting the immune system and fighting off infections. “Incorporating ‘kehwa’ into daily routines is a proactive step toward safeguarding health and well-being during winter,” he added.
Health experts continue to urge citizens to adopt balanced diets and natural remedies to maintain good health during the colder months.
