Schools Reopen Across Punjab Amid Improved Smog Conditions
News Desk
Lahore: Schools across Punjab are resuming classes after a significant improvement in the region’s smog situation, attributed to changes in wind direction and recent rainfall in Northern Areas.
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that, following instructions from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, educational institutions in districts outside Lahore and Multan divisions will reopen starting Tuesday.
As per a notification from the Punjab government, schools will now open no earlier than 8:45 AM. In light of ongoing health concerns, wearing masks has been made mandatory for all students, teachers, and staff, and outdoor sports and extracurricular activities remain suspended until further notice. To manage traffic flow efficiently, different closing times have been set for various classes.
The notification, signed by Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), emphasizes strict enforcement of these precautionary measures.
Environmental experts credit recent rainfall in the Northern Areas for the improved air quality, which has positively impacted most districts in Punjab.
Minister Aurangzeb highlighted the importance of balancing children’s education with public health safety, stating, “While children’s education is vital, health cannot be compromised.” She also expressed gratitude to the public, EPA, police, and district administration for their continued cooperation and efforts.
