Scattered Rain in Lahore as MET Warns of Torrential Downpours

Lahore: Scattered rain was reported in the provincial metropolis on Saturday, while the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast similar weather conditions over the next 24 hours.
The MET Office warned that torrential rains on Sunday may trigger flash floods in local nullahs and streams of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas.

Heavy downpours may also cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Nowshera, and Mardan. Meanwhile, landslides or mudslides could lead to road closures in hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir.
The department cautioned that heavy rainfall, windstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures, including kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels. Citizens, travelers, and tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to vulnerable areas and stay updated on weather alerts.

According to officials, a seasonal low pressure system persists over north Balochistan, while strong monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper and central parts of the country. Additionally, a westerly wave is affecting most northern regions.
Rainfall was also recorded in Gujrat, Gujranwala, Murree, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Chakwal, Hafizabad, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Dir, Malam Jabba, Kalam, Peshawar, Takht Bai, Pattan, Kotli, and Karachi.
