Saudia Arabia Deploys Patriot Missile System in Makkah

Riyadh/Makkah: Saudi Arabia has significantly ramped up security measures ahead of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage, including the deployment of the American-made Patriot missile defence system around the holy city of Makkah.
In a statement issued by the Saudi Ministry of Defence, officials confirmed the installation of the advanced missile system, highlighting it as a strategic step to safeguard the millions of pilgrims expected to arrive for the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
Images released by the Ministry show the Patriot system deployed in key locations surrounding Makkah. Designed to intercept and neutralise aerial threats such as ballistic missiles, drones, and other hostile aircraft, the Patriot system is among the most sophisticated air defence technologies in the world.

In addition to ground-based defences, Saudi forces are also conducting aerial surveillance operations. Footage shared on official platforms shows military helicopters monitoring the airspace over Masjid al-Haram and its adjacent areas, ensuring constant situational awareness and rapid response capabilities.
Saudi authorities have reiterated that the safety and security of pilgrims remain their top priority. “All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that pilgrims can perform their spiritual duties in a secure and peaceful environment,” said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence.
This year’s Hajj is expected to draw millions of Muslims from across the globe. The enhanced security comes amid a complex regional security environment and underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring the protection of worshippers during one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world.
