Saudi-Pakistan Defence Pact Could Set Precedent: Dar

News Desk

London: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday hinted that Pakistan’s landmark defence agreement with Saudi Arabia could pave the way for similar arrangements with other countries.

“Some countries have expressed interest in pursuing such agreements after this development,” Dar told reporters in London. “It is, however, premature to make announcements. Even with Saudi Arabia, the process took several months to finalize.”

He described the pact with Riyadh as a historic milestone, formalizing Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the security of the Kingdom, particularly the protection of the Harmain Sharifain. “What was earlier an understanding has now become formal,” he said.

Dar emphasized that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were “satisfied and happy” with the agreement. He further noted Saudi Arabia’s consistent support for Pakistan in difficult times, including during recent economic crises.
