Riyadh:  Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, widely known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after spending more than 20 years in a coma following a tragic car accident at the age of 15.

Born in April 1990, Prince Al Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud and the nephew of billionaire businessman Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. In 2005, while studying as a military cadet in London, he suffered a catastrophic accident that left him with severe brain injuries and internal bleeding.

Despite extensive medical intervention from teams in the United States and Spain, the prince never regained full consciousness. However, rare involuntary movements during Quran recitations offered glimmers of hope to his family and followers over the years.

For more than two decades, Prince Khaled stood by his son’s bedside, refusing to withdraw life support and expressing steadfast faith in the possibility of divine healing.

Videos shared by the family over the years showed the prince slightly responding to auditory stimuli, drawing widespread empathy and admiration across the Muslim world.

News of his passing at a specialised medical facility in Saudi Arabia has prompted an outpouring of grief. The hashtag #SleepingPrince trended on social media as thousands paid tribute to a life that became a symbol of unwavering paternal devotion, hope, and spiritual endurance.

Prince Al Waleed’s hospital room had long become a place of quiet prayer, frequently visited by well-wishers and dignitaries. His story, marked by personal tragedy and extraordinary familial love, has left a lasting imprint on the hearts of many across the Kingdom and beyond.
