Sargodha: A massive flood wave of around 600,000 cusecs entered the Kot Momin area of the River Chenab on Thursday, raising fears of inundation in low-lying parts of the district.

According to the district administration, water flow at Qadirabad was recorded at 1,017,000 cusecs at 6 a.m., with nearly one million cusecs expected to pass through Kot Momin during the day.

Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Muhammad Wasim and District Police Officer Sohaib Ashraf remained present in the affected areas for more than 24 hours to supervise relief operations.

The deputy commissioner said water had already started entering fields and nearby settlements, prompting swift evacuation efforts. So far, nearly 2,500 residents and over 1,700 livestock have been shifted to safer locations.

Relief camps have been set up, while all administrative departments are on high alert. “The Pakistan Army is working shoulder-to-shoulder with the district administration to tackle the situation,” the DC said.

He added that once the flood wave passes, restoration work would begin and a detailed assessment of damages would be compiled.
