Sarah Zeid Referred BISP As Role Model For Other Nations

ISLAMABAD: World Food Programs (WFPs) Special Advisor on Mother and Child Nutrition and Jordanian Princess Sarah Zeid has termed Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) as a role model for other countries running social protection initiatives
During her visit to the BISP Headquarters along with the WFP Country Director, she was briefed about different operations of BSIP, its various initiatives like National Socio-Economic Registry NSER, Benazir Kifalat, Benazir Taleemi Wazaif, Benazir Nashonuma, and the registration process.
She was told that BISP has also introduced a special mechanism for the registration of transgender community and if declared ineligible, they could also have the right to appeal for their inclusion in the programme.
The princess appreciated the Program for uplifting the underprivileged section of society. She referred to the programme as a role model for the other countries and stated that the nations with social safety systems needed to draw lessons from the BISP’s experiences.
She was told that the BISP has a particular registration process for the transgender population and that, if they are rejected, they may be able to appeal to be admitted to the programme.
She also praised the significance of the Taleemi Waziaf initiative, which has been implemented in 160 districts of Pakistan and currently has 8.5 million children enrolled in it, in educating children, particularly girls.
She was also informed that the Benazir Nashonuma program’s scope has been expanded by BISP. Under this programme, cash support in the amount of Rs. 2000 per quarter to boy child and Rs. 2500 per quarter to girl child is offered to pregnant, nursing women and their children under the age of two. In exchange, mothers are required to regularly attend health education sessions during pregnancy and eat specialised nutrient meals.
