Sanam Jung’s Message Counters Body Shaming

Karachi: In a drama that addresses the problem of body shaming, actor Sanam Jung is now portraying an obese woman. She has used social media to criticise outmoded beauty standards. The actor advised everyone to stop making fun of others because of their appearance and to start showing compassion and empathy.

On Friday, Jung reshared a clip from her drama ‘Pyari Mona’ on Instagram, where her character Mona is seen tearfully expressing her satisfaction with her body to her mother.

Jung pointed out the ludicrous beauty standards, saying, “Every day, we make people feel terrible about being who they are and for appearing the way they do. It’s past time that we advance and look past external characteristics.”

Sanam stressed that this message goes beyond the character played by Mona and applies to many other girls who can empathize with the challenges of being body-shamed. “Let’s stop putting each other down, bullying, and body shaming. Live and let live, is how she put it,” she stated.

The actress recently discussed the significance of the ‘Pyari Mona’ drama series character ‘Mona’ in an interview. She noted how people with healthier body sizes are impacted by the pressures placed on celebrities to maintain a thin physique.

By concentrating on mental health, depression, and body positivity, which are significant concerns that go against cultural standards, ‘Pyari Mona’ separates itself from other popular television dramas. Viewers who found the drama sympathetic and shared their own personal stories responded favourably to it.

Directed by Ali Hasan, the drama stars Adeel Hussain, Sabeeka Imam, Mashal Khan, and Adnan Jaffar in prominent roles.
