Samsung Unveils Its Thinnest Phone Yet

Islamabad: Samsung has just unveiled its slimmest smartphone yet—the Galaxy S25 Edge—measuring an ultra-thin 5.8 millimetres in thickness.
After months of anticipation, the Galaxy S25 Edge was officially launched at the Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday. According to the Daily Mail, the device weighs just 163 grams, making it 32% lighter and 34% thinner than Apple’s already sleek iPhone 16 Pro Max. Despite its slim profile, Samsung claims the phone can deliver up to 24 hours of video playback.
With a 6.7-inch display, the S25 Edge fits between the 6.9-inch Galaxy S25 Ultra and the 6.2-inch standard S25 model. However, its compact size doesn’t come with a lower price—pricing starts at £1,099 (or $1,099.99 in the US) for the 256 GB version and £1,199 ($1,219.99) for the 512 GB model.
Available in Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icy Blue, the Galaxy S25 Edge is essentially a sleeker reworking of the Galaxy S25 Plus. It retains the same OLED screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, and AI-powered features, but includes some compromises due to the thinner design.
One key difference is the camera setup. While the S25 Edge sports a powerful 200-megapixel main sensor—the same one used in the S25 Ultra—it lacks a telephoto lens, making its camera system less versatile than other models. By contrast, Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro Max features a 48-megapixel main camera with zoom capabilities.
The phone’s reduced size also means a smaller battery: 3,900 mAh compared to the S25 Ultra’s 5,000 mAh. Samsung claims that software and hardware optimisations allow for a full day of video playback, but real-world performance remains to be seen.
To maintain durability in such a thin device, Samsung has built the S25 Edge with a premium titanium frame and equipped it with the new Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for improved crack resistance.
On the software side, the device runs One UI 7, the same version of Android found on other current Samsung phones. It will also have full access to the latest Galaxy AI features, powered in part by Google’s Gemini AI. These include tools to remove unwanted objects from photos and videos, transcribe phone calls in real time, and offer enhanced writing suggestions.
While the Galaxy S25 Edge certainly pushes the boundaries of smartphone design, opinions are mixed on whether thinner truly means better—especially if it comes with trade-offs in battery life and camera functionality.
