Samsung May Ditch Galaxy S26+ for Sleek New S26 Edge in 2025
News Desk
Islamabad: Samsung is reportedly planning a significant change to its flagship smartphone lineup for 2025, potentially replacing the traditional Galaxy S26+ model with a new, slimmer Galaxy S26 Edge.
For years, Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series has followed a three-model approach: Standard, Plus, and Ultra. However, the “Plus” variant has recently struggled to capture consumer interest. Shipment forecasts reveal this decline, w
ith only 6.7 million Galaxy S25+ units expected to ship by the end of 2025—making it the least popular among the S25 series, which is projected to hit 37.7 million units overall.
Rising Popularity of the Galaxy S25 Edge
In contrast, the recently launched Galaxy S25 Edge is gaining attention for its ultra-thin, 5.8mm design and standout features. It boasts a 200MP camera sensor, a 6.7-inch Quad-HD+ AMOLED display, and runs on the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with Android 15-based One UI 7. Despite having a relatively small 3,900 mAh battery, the Edge’s sleek design and premium specs are attracting consumer interest.
Battery Challenges and Innovation
The slim profile of the Edge comes at the cost of battery capacity, raising concerns about daily battery life. To address this, Samsung is reportedly developing silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery technology aimed at improving power efficiency while maintaining the phone’s slim design. This innovation could be a key feature in future models such as the Galaxy S26 Edge.
Development and Future Prospects
According to sources including The Elec, Samsung has already begun development of the Galaxy S26 series, codenamed NPA, working on four different display prototypes that suggest multiple variants for next year’s release. Whether the Galaxy S26+ is discontinued in favor of the S26 Edge will largely depend on consumer reaction to the new Edge form factor.
If successful, Samsung could move away from the “Plus” era and embrace a thinner, more premium design philosophy going forward.
