Sami Ul Hasan Resigns as PCB Media Director

Lahore: Senior sports journalist and communication specialist Sami Ul Hasan has resigned from his position as Director Media and Communications of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). His role also encompassed responsibilities related to digital media.

According to a PCB press release, Sami had informed the board in December 2024 of his intention to conclude his tenure after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Sami rejoined the PCB in March 2019 after serving 13 years with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Dubai, where he last held the position of Head of Media and Communications. Prior to his ICC tenure, he worked as the PCB’s General Manager – Media from 2002 to 2004 and spent 14 years as a cricket correspondent for Dawn newspaper.

PCB Chief Operating Officer (COO) Sumair Ahmad Syed praised Sami’s contributions, stating that he played a crucial role in modernizing PCB’s communication strategies, strengthening media relations, and enhancing the board’s digital landscape.

He acknowledged that under Sami’s leadership, the Media, Communications, and Digital department significantly boosted the PCB’s global and local engagement, particularly in the lead-up to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

“On behalf of the PCB, I extend our gratitude to Sami for his dedication and professionalism and wish him success in his future endeavors,” the PCB COO added.

Sami Ul Hasan expressed gratitude for his time at the PCB, saying:

“It has been a privilege to serve the PCB for the second time and contribute to its growth during a transformative period. I step away with immense satisfaction, knowing that the Media, Communications, and Digital team has evolved into one of the most respected and highly professional departments.”

He also thanked senior leaders, colleagues, and the media fraternity for their support and collaboration, adding that he looks forward to future engagements within the industry.
