Islamabad: The Sadequain Foundation, in collaboration with Gallery 21, is set to launch the illustrated edition of Albert Camus’ iconic novel The Stranger later this month.
The book, titled Albert Camus and Sadequain and authored by Dr. Salman Ahmad, marks the first-ever release of this unique work in Pakistan. It features a rare collection of lithographs by legendary Pakistani artist Sadequain, inspired by the Nobel Laureate’s existentialist masterpiece.
Though originally created decades ago, the series has never been published in Pakistan. The collection offers a powerful visual interpretation of one of the most influential literary works of the 20th century.
Speaking to APP, Zohaib Chaudhry, Director Planning and Promotion at the Pakistan Sadequain Foundation, said the launch was a “historic milestone” in showcasing Sadequain’s extraordinary artistic achievements.
“This publication represents a rare moment when Pakistan’s cultural voice resonated on the global stage,” he noted.
Chaudhry added that Sadequain’s interpretation of Camus’ existential themes reflects his genius, capturing the philosophical depth and irony of the novel across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
“This improbable achievement truly deserves a place of honor in Pakistan’s cultural and intellectual heritage,” he said.
Alongside the lithographs, the book provides readers with a concise background on Albert Camus and a summary of The Stranger (1942), offering context to appreciate how Sadequain visually reimagined one of modern literature’s greatest works.
The launch event is expected to attract art lovers, literary scholars, and cultural enthusiasts from across the country. Organizers describe it as a landmark moment for Pakistan’s artistic and literary landscape, celebrating global intellectual heritage and the enduring legacy of Sadequain.
