Karachi: Pakistani television star Saba Qamar has opened up about the emotional and physical toll of portraying a rape survivor in Geo Entertainment’s critically acclaimed drama Case No. 9, which airs every Wednesday and Thursday.
The celebrated actress, known for her powerful performances, has once again impressed audiences and critics alike with her raw and deeply emotional portrayal of Sehar — a woman fighting for justice against a powerful businessman.
Saba’s performance has drawn widespread praise, including from veteran actress Atiqa Odho, who lauded her “effortless and profoundly moving” acting in the drama. Responding to Atiqa’s heartfelt message and question about how she manages such an emotionally draining role, Saba shared a candid reflection on her Instagram story.
“Emotional scenes take a real toll on the mind and body,” she wrote. “Living those emotions again and again does affect you. I’ve faced health issues because of it.”
Despite the strain, Saba emphasized her dedication to the craft, saying, “I’m learning to take better care of myself, to breathe through it, and remind myself that I’m strong. It’s tough, but this is what I love, and that’s where my strength comes from.”
Case No. 9 has earned critical acclaim for its sensitive depiction of sexual violence, courtroom drama, and the societal stigma surrounding victims. Viewers and critics have hailed Saba’s performance as one of the most compelling in recent Pakistani television history.
The drama, produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment, is written by Geo News anchor Shahzeb Khanzada and directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain. It stars Faisal Qureshi, Aamina Sheikh, Junaid Khan, and Rushna Khan in pivotal roles.
Saba’s honest revelation highlights the often-overlooked psychological challenges faced by actors who take on emotionally intense characters, offering audiences a glimpse into the dedication and resilience behind the screen.
The drama airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm on Geo Entertainment.
