Kudrovo: ‘Kasap Kudrov’, Russia’s largest residential building, is a remarkable architectural feat shaped like a massive oval that houses between 11,000 and 18,000 people, all living under one roof.

It is one of the most densely populated residential complexes in the country. Situated in Kudrovo in the Leningrad region, this enormous structure contains 3,708 apartments and features 35 different entrances.

Completed in 2015 as part of the Novy Okreveli development, the building gained international attention in 2021 when aerial photos appeared on the American social news network Reddit. The images quickly went viral, attracting thousands of comments from around the world.

The building’s distinctive design and vast scale have led to comparisons with an ant colony, a fitting analogy given its appearance and the large number of residents it accommodates. This unusual and extensive residential complex has captivated interest, highlighting both the challenges and innovations in contemporary urban housing in Russia.
