Russian Deputy Defense Minister Arrested on Bribery Charges

Islamabad: Russian Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov has been arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes, foreign media reported on Wednesday.
An ongoing investigation by the Russian Defense Ministry is looking into allegations of bribery against Ivanov.
While specifics regarding the source and amount of the alleged bribe were not disclosed by Russian officials, it is indicated that the arrest suggests Ivanov accepted a bribe of at least one million rubles, roughly equivalent to three million rupees.
The maximum penalty for this offense is fifteen years imprisonment. Ivanov, aged 48, was appointed as Deputy Minister of Defense by presidential order in 2016, overseeing projects such as the Military Construction Complex.
Renowned for his expertise in cybernetics and the nuclear industry, Ivanov ranks among the wealthiest individuals within the Russian security sector, as reported by Forbes magazine.
Prior to his tenure at the Ministry of Defense, he held positions in fuel and energy companies as well as the Moscow regional government.
